Spread Media Inc., started in 2009 as an idea to help me, Edward Curran, stand out when posting on craigslist for gigs. I would post something like "Willing to design brand for 2 peices and pizza and a pack of smokes" to, again, stand out but I also needed people to have a way to visit a site that had a good name. The actual name of Spread Media came from the woman that I was sleeping with at the time...I guess one door does actually open after another one closes...but I liked the name, the domain was available so it stuck.
Over the next 5 years I took the name and built a whole bunch of stuff underneath it that I called IDEAS! I had people come and people go in my life that thought that I was the key to some sort of financial reward. See I was a guy that could make things look easy in the branding sense and some of my ideas seemed solid...but behind every idea is a tonne of work. Work that needs both dedication and creativity. I found both in my wife, Danielle, and in our friend Francis and it is the three of us that own Spread Media Inc...and it is the three of us that are working on some of the best IDEAS! that three people can create, build, market and grow.
Communicating visually in a global environment is the strategic key to business success. The way we speak, listen and understand each other on a world-wide scale is the art of communication.
I don't think or feel that I actually think that differently from anyone...or everyone else. I have ideas in the middle of the night that keep me awake just like everyone else. The issue is that I have the ability to brand so I usually wrap a brand around the idea.
And there in lies the rub.
See our culture and society have been trained to see a strong brand or graphic image as a full fledged and functioning product. It's not. I will be the first to say that I am not a business man. I am an artist with the ability to make things look commercial and that is what I did with Shift Automotive Apps. I took an idea and build around it.
I am only a part of the solution and have learned more about myself and my limitations than most people will admit about themselves.
I could write a bunch of stuff here about myself and why I should be considered and blah, blah, blah, but really, if I wanted to convince you with words then I would a copywriter.
But I am not.
My name is Edward Curran. I like to consider myself a visual problem solver more than a designer or graphic artist. To me, design has always been about solving problems visually and along the way I’ve helped solve some rather big visual problems that helped turned entrepreneurs into businesses that continue to succeed.
Of course there is always two sides to a coin and I do have a bit of a reputation. Some of it good and some of it bad but if I didn’t have people talking about me on both sides of the fence then I would never have decided to work from myself these past 7 years.
Or made the realization that although I am a visual problem solver, I am not an account executive. I want to work for a company that can allow me the opportunity to work with a team. I want to contribute. I want to learn but mostly I want to be apart of something bigger.
The true fact is is that I love to work from home...always. I get to see my daughter grow up and do what I love at the same time.
